About Us
Nestled on a bend of the Sacramento River off Jelly Ferry’s Road in Red Bluff, CA, Oak Slough Farm is a new two-generation vegetable farm. Former regenerative livestock ranchers, wife and husband duo are joined by returning daughter and son (and the people who are currently enamored with them) to turn an abandoned walnut orchard into a commercial, organic mixed vegetable and flower operation. Thank you for supporting local food and families!
Practices
We are certified USDA organic by Oregon Tilth. Our organic practice is two-fold: do no harm and do some good. On the do no harm side, we do not use pesticides, herbicides or any chemical fertilizers that have downstream negative effects on our ecosystem. We also try to do some good by working to improve our soil over time. We implement cover cropping and mulching methods and we plan to move towards no-till practices. Sustainability also means building a business that is good for its workers, the Earth, and the community that sustains it–this will take some figuring out and we aim to be transparent as we create and grow.
This is a local farm. Our production is driven by the community and land we serve. We are excited by the inherent way in which food connects people to one another and the land. Through our newsletter and efforts in the community, we hope to invest you in the process of expanding a local economy together, built on sustainable relationships with the land and the principle of making a space for all parts of the community.
